Over the weekend I attended the 2009 IMMAE Mixed Martial Arts Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center in sunny southern California. This was the perfect venue for me to kick off my first Sports Acton Network blog! The venue was packed with numerous venders selling clothes, fight and training gear, health and fitness products, along with various attractions. I had a blast checking out the different vendors then started interviewing all the special guests there such as BJ Penn, Bass Rutten, Cris Cyborg, Dennis Kang, Patrick Kote, Joe Lauzan, Todd Duffey, Jamie Varner, and many more! I am a huge fan of all these fighters. They were all cool and down to earth!
I was very tempted to try and impress Bass Rutten with the bit of Dutch I knew, but stuck to business and held back. He was just as funny and upbeat as he seems in his instructional videos on You Tube.
BJ Penn gave me a great interview and took the time to shake my dad and brother’s hand even though he’d been signing autographs for hours. I couldn’t believe how down to earth he was.
Cris Cyborg was shockingly sweet considering how tough she looks. She had a great smile and attitude with all her fans and was very exciting to meet.
I then visited some of the attractions. One of the venders had a punching bag that measured how hard you could hit. Joe Lauzan strapped my gloves on then I kicked off my high heels and gave it a shot. Not to toot my own horn, but I took the #1 High Score for women of that day. The guys running the booth were very surprised. Never underestimate a girl.
The entire atmosphere was especially vibrant and exhilarating. I was a child in a candy store as I poured over the latest gear and clothing lines. When I finally had my fill, I headed out with a huge smile on my face for the ride home.
